TrustnGoMachinery Regulation: Cybersecurity
The Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, applicable from 20 January 2027, replaces Directive 2006/42/EC and introduces cybersecurity requirements into the essential health and safety requirements (Annex III) for the first time: resistance to accidental and malicious manipulation, secure connections and remote access, traceability of interventions, and security maintained throughout the machine's lifecycle.
TrustnGo only handles this cybersecurity part, based on the draft prEN 50742 standard, which bridges functional safety and industrial security. We do not cover the mechanical, electrical or general functional safety aspects of the Machinery Regulation, which remain the responsibility of your usual notified body or inspection body.

The four cybersecurity requirements of the Machinery Regulation

Protection against corruption
Safety-related control systems and their software must resist both accidental failures and intentional manipulation.

Secure connections and remote access
Connected functions (IoT, network, remote maintenance) must not create a hazardous situation if compromised.

Logging and traceability
The machine must allow tampering or interference with its safety systems to be detected and traced.

Security throughout the lifecycle
Protective measures and update mechanisms must remain effective for the machine's entire service life, not just at the time it is placed on the market.
